History of Versailles Grand Stables Arena.

Across the street from the Royal Residence, Jules Hardouin Mansart, the later architect of Versailles, built from 1679 to 1683, two identical buildings meant to shelter he 600 royal horses.

I t was also the home of all the horse related staff, the court Musicians and the nobles help.

In 2002 these grounds were turned back to their original purpose thanks to the Versailles Château Association, which selected world-renowned horseman Bartabas to give it a new start. Architect Patrick Bouchain, with whom Bartabas had worked previously on equestrian shows, was given the task of building a showcase for Bartabas's Versailles exclusive representation. These shows pinpoint the exceptional relationship between men and horses.
